Movie Review Of Businessman

There can be no doubt Businessman is one of the much-awaited movies of recent times! As we know, it marks the reunion of two highly talented celebs: Mahesh Babu and Puri Jagannadh, who earlier made history in Tollywood with their phenomenal Pokiri. So, the expectations were really high! But the question here is whether they meet the expectations! Let's see!

 

Businessman is all about a young chap Surya (Mahesh Babu), who cherishes the dream to become a don. With a mission to graduate from a street goonda to a dreaded goon, who can shake the political scenario of the nation, he arrives in Mumbai, starts to recruit rowdies for monthly salaries, and begins to execute crimes with his friend Bramhaji.

 

Knowing that Chitra (Kajal Aggarwal) is the daughter of Mumbai police commissioner Ajay Bharadwaj (Nazar), Surya pretends to be in love with her, so that he can take advantage of her in knowing the cops' movements. At this juncture, Surya helps an opposition party leader Laloo (Sayaji Shinde) to win the local elections and with this, Surya invites the wrath of ruling party leader Jayadev (Prakashraj). Jayadev locks horns with Surya only to realise that Surya was after him even from childhood. Why is Surya after Jayadev? Why did he become a don? What happens to his love? All these form the crux of the film. 

 

Businessman is Mahesh Babu’s show all the way! He excels as Surya Bhai from the start to end. His intense performance and powerful dialogues keeps the film alive. Despite having many scenes, Kajal is just okay and her character is poorly etched and therefore, fails to make an impression. Prakashraj, Sayaji Shinde and Nazar sound routine, but each of them is a highlight to the film. 

 

Coming to the tech side, dialogues by Puri Jagannadh are the best part of the film. Jagannadh’s strength is seen by his dialogues and if you like certain scenes in Businessman, it is only because of his superb dialogues! However, Puri Jagannadh's direction is poor. Screenplay is racy, but lacks flow and logic. The director seems to have simply placed scene after scene without much purpose. Storyline is thin and there is a brief flashback in the film, which has nothing to do with the original story. Even the romance doesn’t have the soul. 

 

Music by Thaman is another highlight. He did a fine job with the background score and scored a couple of real chart-buster numbers. Cinematography is neat and Editing is crisp. In short, Businessman would definitely be a disappointment if you compare it with Pokiri! But if you are a Mahesh Babu fan, things would definitely work!
